Areas of Support
Request a Military Speaker
Through the Common Ground Speaker Series, educators can request guest speakers from the military to speak on a variety of topics, including literacy, substance abuse prevention, anti-bullying, drop-out prevention, the American flag, and patriotic holidays or events.
Military Signing Week
During Military Signing Week in April, West Virginia schools participate in events where students can commit to servicing in the United States Armed Forces.
Purple Star Award
The Purple Star Award is a designation for West Virginia schools that show a special commitment to serving military children and families. Educators can access trainings on how to identify military-connected children and become a point of contact for military families.
Care Packages for Military-Connected Children
Educators can request care packages when they learn a student is experiencing a deployment or transition due to active military service. The packages provide strategies, resources, and contacts to help staff support the student and their family.
Purple Up Month Toolkit
April is the month of the military child, and West Virginia schools celebrate Purple Up Month to honor the courage and resiliency of military-connected children. Access a toolkit to show your support.
Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission (MIC3)
MIC3 helps ensure children of active-duty military service members can successfully transition between states and school systems. Educators can request training, and families can contact a military family education liaison for support.
