Governor’s Schools Program Returns to Provide Students with New Opportunities

Charleston, W.Va. – Locations and universities across the state of West Virginia will host approximately 544 students this summer as part of the 2024 class of Governor’s Schools. Gov. Jim Justice, in partnership with the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE), offers these eight residential programs that have once again expanded with diverse and unique learning opportunities.

The Governor’s Schools program began in 1984 to provide students the chance to explore cutting-edge theories in the arts and sciences and develop a greater understanding of how art, culture and knowledge change with time. In addition to refining their talents and abilities, these young scholars develop lifelong friendships and are instructed and mentored by practicing professionals in their areas of interest.

This is the inaugural year of the Governor’s School for Tourism (GST), allowing students to gain knowledge of the tourism industry in West Virginia by traveling the state to learn what sets it apart from other travel destinations.
