National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is often called the “Nation’s Report Card,” NAEP is the largest continuing and nationally representative assessment of what our nation’s students know and can do in core subject. NAEP is governed by the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) in conjunction with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).
West Virginia Code §18-2E-2 requires the administration of the NAEP assessment.
The content assessed on the NAEP assessment is determined by the NAEP Frameworks developed under the direction of the NAGB.
All data collected through the cognitive assessment and the survey questionnaires are released by NCES on the NAEP Data Explorer.
In conjunction with most releases of NAEP results, NCES releases some of the questions administered on the assessment through the NAEP Questions Tool. These questions are accompanied by response data for each question as well as samples of student responses for the constructed response items.
