Future Educators Attend Fall Leadership Conference

Charleston, W.Va.— The student-led organization Educators Rising, in partnership with the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE), hosted 145 students at their Fall Leadership Conference at West Virginia State University (WVSU). The event allowed high school students interested in becoming teachers to network with peers and gain further insight into their career pathway.

Educators Rising promotes, supports, and educates students on the various aspects of the teaching profession. They introduce and explore teaching as a noble and viable career option and create opportunities to address the workforce needs that challenge the Mountain State and the nation.

During the conference, WVSU education students helped facilitate discussions with student participants in breakout sessions that provided knowledge of the education field. They received a better understanding of how to become a teacher and experienced the resources available to them in a university setting.

“Educators lay the groundwork for our future and the youth will usher it into existence with skill, passion, and determination,” said State Superintendent of Schools Michele L. Blatt. “These future teachers are learning how to achieve their goals and continue a legacy of high-quality, robust education.”

Students involved in a career path at a young age are likely to make decisions affecting their future and consider lifelong interests. West Virginia will greatly benefit from more teachers operating in classrooms across the state. The Fall Leadership Conference prepares students for a career in education that provides opportunities and success. Participants will later attend the State Competitive Events Conference and National Educators Rising Conference.
