“It’s fun to compete together as a team. This is a cool competition,” said Bridgeport Team 1 Captain Tyler Hackney. “We are coming back stronger because we recognize that everyone has different strengths, and that has helped us. A lot of information you can pick up by living your life, paying attention in class and staying curious.”

“This program has grown significantly since it began four years ago,” said State Superintendent of Schools Michele L. Blatt. “Congratulations to the Bridgeport and Grafton teams for their second year of success. We are proud of them as well as all of the teams that have worked so hard to prepare for the 2025 Academic Showdown.”

The Showdown is a partnership between the WVDE, the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History and West Virginia Public Broadcasting.
