West Virginia Department of Ed. Showcases Student Excellence at Arts Alive
CHARLESTON, W.VA. — Arts education programs and artistic student achievement will be on display at the West Virginia Department of Education’s (WVDE) 16th annual Arts Alive event celebrating statewide fine arts achievements. The event returns to an in-person celebration at the State Culture Center (1900 Kanawha Boulevard, East, Charleston) after two years of COVID disruptions.
The art exhibit begins at 6 p.m. with the showcase following at 7 p.m. Held in partnership with West Virginia Public Broadcasting, those who are unable to attend the event in person may watch a live stream at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlq2iEnmAMM.
In the exhibit, the following will be featured:
- 50 pieces from Pre-Kindergarten
- 59 pieces from competitive submissions to the WVDE
- 106 pieces from the West Virginia Art Education Associations’ Youth Art Month
“Arts education has a tremendous impact on the success of our students and Arts Alive is a way to showcase the incredible talents of our children,” said State Superintendent of Schools W. Clayton Burch. “Creativity and leadership go hand-in-hand in the development of our students.”
Leading up to the event, the WVDE hosted a contest seeking an original student design for the event poster. Bridgeport High School Student Ariellen Lowery’s design is featured as the event poster.
