Summary of Requirements

Advanced Credentials are awarded to educators for completing professional development, coursework, and/or testing which exceeds the requirements of a professional certificate.

Full Requirements

Initial

  • Validity Period: Requirements differ according to the credential, see WVBE Policy 5202 for details
  • General Requirements: US Citizen or hold eligible documentation (see WVBE Policy 5202); good character; age 18; physically, mentally, and emotionally qualified.
  • Education Level: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (Regionally accredited IHE)
  • Grade Point Average: Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Educational Work Experience: Differs per credential, see WVBE Policy 5202.
  • Coursework/Training: Differs per credential
  • Credential: Must hold a valid WV professional certificate
  • Testing: No
  • Employment Required: Yes
  • Official Recommendation: Superintendent
