Initial

  • Validity Period: Up to 5 years as determined by the expiration date on the NBPTS certificate
  • General Requirements: Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
  • Education Level: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (Regionally Accredited IHE)
  • Credential: Valid WV Professional Teaching Certificate
  • Educational Work Experience: As required by the NBPTS.
  • Coursework/Training: Achievement of NBPTS Certification.
  • Testing: As required by the NBPTS.
  • Employment Required: Yes, for the NBPTS state salary supplement; No, for recognition only of NBPTS certification.
  • Official Recommendation: Designated NBPTS official
  • Official Transcripts: N/A
