About West Virginia Counseling
To focus on academic, career and personal/social development to ensure that every student benefits from a program that is comprehensive in scope, preventative in design and developmental in nature.
School counselors are student advocates. They spend most of their time in direct services to students. Their role is to support skill development and learning opportunities. They collaborate with the full academic team to lead efforts for systemic change.
The West Virginia School Counseling Program is based on the American School Counselor Association National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs.
To support all students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to reach their fullest potential and successfully manage their lives as healthy, responsible, competent and productive, global citizens who respect themselves and others.
WVDE seeks to provide all West Virginia students with appropriate and quality counseling programs. Our approach is data-driven and focused on continuous improvement.
